海岸近くの書店で涼みながら窓の外に広がる空を眺めていました、1987年の5月。
崎谷健次郎さんのファーストアルバム「DIFFERENCE」に収録されている「僕には君だけ」を聴くと、当時の色彩感覚がリアルに思い出されます。町の色、建物の色、看板の色、新緑や花の色、壁の色。
海岸近くにカフェがあったのかもしれませんが、当時は自販機でキンキンに冷えた炭酸飲料水もしくはスポーツドリンクを買って飲んで歩いていました。いつもの席で誰かと会話をするのは、授業の課題に取り組んでいるときです。ほんの一分単位で、ありとあらゆる行動が織りなされていた気がします。いつもうまくいくとは限らないので、ときどき脱力して空を見上げたり、海に向かって歩いたり。のどが乾いたら自販機にコインを投入。
ミントティーは、あったのかなあ。
アイスティーは、夏になると、よく飲みました。
課題や宿題やレポートや試験前の、混乱した状況の中で、なじみの店で居座り続けるためにドリンクを注文するとき、よく選んでいたのです。
ガムシロップの言葉の意味がよくわからなくて、「ガムシロつけてください」と、よく言ってました。甘いです。アイスコーヒーは苦いのが好きですが、なぜかアイスティーは甘くするのが好きでした。
崎谷健次郎さんの「僕には君だけ」を聴いていると、潮騒を感じます。
海岸近くの建物があんなにきれいに塗装されていたのに、すっかりもう錆びてしまったような感じの塩分強めな潮騒です。塩分と鉄分とガムシロップが、1987年 5月頃の味と匂いです。「潮の香り」というより、「海の匂い」です。髪の毛がベタベタしてくるんですよ。でせも風に吹かれていると気持ちいいし、わざわざ遠回りして舗道を歩き続けてしまいます。自販機を見つけるたびに、なんとなく『なにがあるんだろう』と横目でチラチラしながら通り過ぎます。
崎谷健次郎さんのファーストアルバム「DIFFERENCE」は、歩きながら聴くことも多かったです。なんだか映画の主人公になったような気分になったんです。海と空と雲と波と壁と植木と通り過ぎる車を眺めながら。
「僕には君だけ」は、「思いがけないSITUATION」の音色に近いのがポイント。エレキギターの、ひずんた感じとか。楽器に詳しい人ならエフェクターの種類を言い当ててしまうかもしれません。
「僕には君だけ」は、潮騒と太陽光と雲の影を感じます。「思いがけないSITUATION」が、なんとなく雨っぽいのに対して、雨あがりなのか突き抜けた陽射しが窓から差し込んでくるような「僕にし君だけ」です。
ああ。そうだ。ありました、海岸道路に面したカフェというかレストランが。潮風に吹かれているメニューを見て、いちばん安くてこれかよ、と愕然としたのを覚えています。あのとき、多少の無理をしてでも、あの店の階段をのぼって店内でアイスティーを飲んでおけば良かったなと、ちょっとだけ思います。きっと窓からの眺めはパノラマで、見事だったことでしょう。
At a bookstore near the coast, I was looking at the sky outside the window while cooling down, May 1987. When you listen to "Only you for me" recorded in Kenjiro Sakiya's first album "DIFFERENCE", you can really remember the sense of color at that time. Town color, building color, signboard color, fresh green and flower color, wall color. There may have been a cafe near the beach, but at that time I used to buy cold carbonated drinks or sports drinks from vending machines and walk around. Talking to someone at your usual seat is when you're working on a lesson assignment. I feel that all kinds of actions were woven in just one minute. It doesn't always work, so sometimes I'm weak and look up at the sky or walk towards the sea. When your throat dries, insert coins into the vending machine. I wonder if there was mint tea. Ice tea often drank in the summer. I used to make a good choice when ordering drinks to stay in a familiar store in a confusing situation before assignments, homework, reports and exams. I didn't understand the meaning of the word gum syrup, so I often said, "Please put on gum syrup." it's sweet. I like iced coffee to be bitter, but for some reason I liked to sweeten iced tea. When I listen to Kenjiro Sakiya's "Only you for me", I feel the tide. Even though the building near the coast was painted so beautifully, it was a salty tide that felt like it had already rusted. Salt, iron and gum syrup are the taste and smell of May 1987. It is more of a "sea scent" than a "tide scent". My hair is getting sticky. It feels good to be blown by the wind, and I end up taking a detour and continuing to walk on the pavement. Every time I find a vending machine, I somehow flicker and pass by, "What's going on?" I often listened to Kenjiro Sakiya's first album "DIFFERENCE" while walking. I felt like I was the main character in the movie. While watching the sea, the sky, the clouds, the waves, the walls, the plants, and the cars passing by. The point is that "only you for me" is close to the tone of "unexpected SITUATION". The distorted feeling of an electric guitar. If you are familiar with musical instruments, you may guess the type of effector. "Only you for me" feels the tide, the sun, and the shadows of the clouds. "Unexpected SITUATION" is somewhat rainy, but it's just "I'm the only one" where the sunlight that pierces through the rain comes in through the window. Ah. That's it. There was a cafe or restaurant facing the coastal road. When I saw the menu blown by the sea breeze, I remember being shocked that it was the cheapest. At that time, I think I should have climbed the stairs of that store and drank iced tea in the store, even if I was a little overwhelmed. I'm sure the view from the window was panoramic and wonderful.
自販機から自販機へと歩き続けて、「ここでは買わない」「次で買う」などと思案しながら、結局なんにも買わないでやりすごす。カラッカラになったノドを潤すために、たまり場へ。その店内には潮の香りは漂っていませんが、夏向きのBGMが流れていてヤシの木みたいな観葉植物が店の隅にありました。やっと飲める。ここで飲むために、そのために何も買わずに来たんだ、と一瞬くらいは自分に言い聞かせたかもしれませんが、おそらく誰かが注文していたであろうフライドポテトやパンのような何かをつまんで、ストローがささったアイスコーヒーを飲もうとして「これ、ひとくちもらうよ」と言っていたような気がします。飲む気なんてないし、自分の分は自分で注文するくせに、つい、そんなふうに言ってしまう。
「僕には君だけ」は、ひずんだギターが叫んでいるというより、少し喜んで舞い上がっているような感じがするのですが、クールです。はしゃいだりは、しません。静かに騒ぎながら試験前の勉強をします。外は潮騒です。夜になる直前の、夕暮れいっぱいに、窓のパノラマをオレンジ色に染めてしまいます。
ときどきピンポイントに、その曲だけを繰り返して聴いていました。

The outside is tide. Just before night, at dusk, the panorama of the windows is dyed orange. Sometimes I just listened to that song repeatedly, pinpointing. Kenjiro Sakiya's "Only you for me", the taste and aroma that comes to mind are salt, iron and gum white.
