茨城県の、つくばみらい市にあります。

小貝川と用水路に挟まれた地形に、桜並木が華麗に咲き誇ります。

絶景です。

日本全国あちこちに、知られざる絶景スポットが多くあると思います。

どうしてこういう堰がつくられたの？

現在の、つくばみらい市。と、その周辺。

地図を見てもわかりますが、とにかく平野です。

田んぼも多く、つまりは「水の確保」が求められてきました。

水を安定的に確保するために、田んぼには「灌漑」が役立ちます。

福岡堰は灌漑用水のためにつくられたもの。

始まりは江戸時代です。

福岡堰は「疏水百選」に選ばれています。

いまもなお農業を支えている用水です。

夏の台風やゲリラ豪雨で、川の氾濫におびえてしまうこともありますが、静かで美しい日々が多いです。

桜の季節は駐車場が満杯。人出は多くても、並木道は、ゆっくり散歩を楽しめます。

桜の季節が過ぎても、新緑の息吹も格別です。
