出典は「万葉集」で、しかも歌ではなく「序文」だそうです。
出典が日本の書物というのは初めて。

今回、選ばれた序文は、

大伴旅人の屋敷で梅の花を詠む宴、その情景を伝えている、

というもの。

梅ですね。

梅の白さと蘭の香りが対になって表現

女性が鏡の前で白粉・おしろいを塗る場面を表現していて、

おしろい→当時の梅は「白」だけだった（まだ紅梅はない）とのこと。

帯についている飾り、そこに香り袋がついていて、蘭の香りがしているようです。
