始まりは「復興まつり」

神奈川県平塚市には海軍の火薬工場がありました。
海軍火薬廠かいぐんかやくしょうです。
平塚市街地が空襲で焼け野原になったのは、1945年7月。
もっとも被害が大きかったのが16日から17日にかけて。
30日にもありました。
とくに16日夜は相当な量の焼夷弾が投下されたようです。
戦争が終わり、1950年7月に、復興まつりが開催されます。
復興まつりは賑わいました。
そこで1951年、復興とさらなる繁栄を願って、七夕まつりになります。

七夕まつりは、仙台を模範にしたそうです。
当時は「新暦で七夕をする習慣が少ない」ことから、新暦7／7で開催することに決めたんだとか。
かなり注目を集め、飾りもパレードも盛大になっていきます。

私が見たことあるのは、小学校に入学する前の頃。

子どもの頃は七夕まつりに行ったことが極めて少ないので、残されている写真を見たときに記憶と結びついて「覚えてる」とわかるわけです。

自分の中では、いちばん古い夏の記憶かもしれません。
大人になると、「こんなに狭かったっけ？」と感じることがあります。
