日本橋は、「起点」です。
東海道をはじめとする、五街道の起点。

五街道とは

・奥州街道
・甲州街道
です。

街道には木が植えられて、並木道を形成しています。
松と杉が有名でしょうか。場所によっては竹もあります。
並木のメリットに、「道幅の確保」もあるようです。

橋に掲げられている「日本橋」の銘版は、徳川慶喜による揮毫です。

最後の将軍、徳川慶喜公。
漢字も、ひらがなも。

揮毫は「きごう」と読みます。
揮毫の毫は、筆。筆の穂先、毛筆のこと。
揮は、「揮う」＝「ふるう」
「筆をふるう」が「揮毫」の意味です。
揮毫という文字。その読み方と意味、私は長いこと知りませんでした。
