北浦川と小貝川。
自然に流れるように。
逆流しないように。
その究極の目的は、氾濫の予防。
利根川の流れているエリアは、さまざまな川があります。
上流で大雨が降ると、利根川が満杯状態になってしまって、他の川（支流）からの水を受け入れられなくなってしまいます。さらには、水のパワーが弱いほうへ、押し出されるみたいにして逆流現象まで発生してしまいます。
北浦川水門は、「自然排水」と「逆流防止」の役割を担っている水門です。

駅からのバスを利用するなら、「藤代桜ケ丘」で下車しましょう。バスの本数が多いのは、JR常磐線・取手駅。

『時間に余裕はあるし、体力もあるから、歩くよ』という人には、
JR常磐線・佐貫駅がおすすめです。
というのも、
佐貫駅からの直線距離は遠いし舗道距離も長いのですが、川沿いに歩くことができるからです。
佐貫駅で下車して、関東鉄道のローカルな線路を越えてしまえば、そこはもう途方もないくらいの、広い空間になります。
広すぎ。だだっぴろい。うわあー。叫んでも誰にも声が届かないと思う。ある意味、淋しくもあり、恐くもあるという。
川沿いに歩くメリットは、「必ずどこかの端に辿り着く」こと、橋が作られている近くには集落があること、などが挙げられます。が、なんにもないかもしれません。
歩くときは、ちょっとした飲み物と食べ物を用意しておきましょう。
佐貫駅で下車したのならば、駅前やカスミ（スーパー）で買い物を。カスミでは美味しいものをお得な価格で入手できます。
ただし。
北浦川水門に着いたら、なにかあるの？と訊かれてしまうと、絶句。
なんていうか、
「なんにもない」があるよ！
という。
でもこの、
「なんにもない」がある、
というのが、
ある意味で非日常体験になるのではないかと考えています。
土浦駅のように自転車を借りることができて「りんりんロード」が整備されていれば良いのですが、あくまでも地元の用水路や、あぜ道や、土手の舗装道路とかです。
区間によっては『関係者以外の車両通行禁止』になっていたりします。
誰かがいるわけではなくても、セキュリティの視線を感じると思います。
誰ともすれ違うこともなく、何時間も経過していくなんて珍しいことではありません。
なんとも言えない、おおきな虚無感のようなものまで感じ取ってしまえるかもしれません。
ただし、それは、あくまでも途中の話。道中のこと。水門に到着すると、タイミングによっては、人の姿がちらほらと。
意外と人気スポットです。
水門の周辺には、駅から遠くはなれた立地ですが「まるで浮島」のような佇まいで、森と集落が出現してきます。
平坦なエリアに、浮島のように、ぷかりと集落が見えてきます。
利根川の水運交通が活気に満ちていた頃ならば、JR常磐線沿線よりも、ずっと賑わっていたであろうエリアです。

川沿いに歩いている分には、方向がわからなくなっても、ある程度の安心感を自分の中に持ち続けることができます。
ところが、自然の川のない、用水路と畑・田んぼだけしか視界に確認できないエリアでは、いったいどこを歩いているのか意味不明な感覚に陥ってしまうことがあります。
個人差は、あるのでしょう。それに、わざわざ、そんな体験をしなくても良いとも思います。それでも。
こんな時代でも、途方もないおおきな虚無感を、美しくて広々とした空間の中で感じることができます。太陽の光を浴びながら、風に吹かれて、『なんにもない』を体感できます。
電波は常に届いていますので、SNSも検索も可能です。
なお、歩き疲れたり、ゆうぐれになってしまった場合は、バスを利用して駅へ帰りましょう。暗くなってからの徒歩は、おすすめできません。
北浦川水門から少し歩きますが、住宅地の中にある「藤代桜ケ丘」から藤代駅へバスで移動できます。
