世界基準の超高層建築は、300m以上と言われています。
かつて、その基準をクリアしようとして、クリアできなかった建物があります。
横浜ランドマークタワーです。

技術面でも予算面でも、じゅうぶんに実現可能でした。
では、なぜ？
羽田空港の高度制限に、ひっかかってしまったからです。
とはいえ、高さは296.3m あります。
デザインも美しく、横浜港にも東京湾にも調和していると感じています。
デザインしたのは、アメリカの建築家・ヒュー・スタビンスです。

横浜博覧会が開催されたのが、1989年。
平成元年の夏です。
当時は、「みなとみらい」の始まりでした。
横浜博覧会の会場はイベントそのものですが、いくつかの建物は使い続けるらしいとわかっていましたので、「ここが新しい街になる」というワクワク感があったのを覚えています。博覧会会期中には存在していませんが、将来は必ずシンボルになるであろう建物の存在感が、なぜかもうあったような気がします。
なので、いよいよ横浜ランドマークタワーが完成するとき、ついに「みなとみらい」が現実になるのかと、感動しました。
横浜ランドマークタワーは、1993年に完成。
夏にオープンです。
そのころ、class「夏の日の1993」が大ヒットしていました。
とにかくもう、なにもかもが夏でキラキラしていました。
思い出すだけで最高です。

So, when the Yokohama Landmark Tower was finally completed, I was impressed that "Minato Mirai" would finally become a reality.

The Yokohama Landmark Tower was completed in 1993.

At that time, the class "Natsu no Hi 1993" was a big hit.

Anyway, everything was shining in the summer.

横浜博覧会の会場でも良い意味で異彩を放っていた「塔」があって、その塔は今もありますが、私は「ありより大きいタワーができるのか」と想像していました。
名前はランドマークタワーで、東京タワーと同じ感じがしますが、むしろ霞が関ビルやサンシャイン60のようなビルディングです。
まず、圧倒されました。想像以上の大きさだったからです。
なにより驚愕したのは、深さです。
空に向かって高く、大きい。それは想像の範囲内でしたが、いわゆる「ドックヤードガーデン」は想像の範囲外でした。深い。なんだこの深さは。しかも歩けるらしいけど、うわ、怖い。空に向かって高くそびえるビルと、地中に深く潜り込むような空間。
ドックヤードガーデンは、船を造ったり修繕したりして、完成したら進水させるという、海と陸の狭間のような領域。そこに入って立てる、というのが不思議100%でした。底に立っていると、わきから水が押し寄せてきそうで、かなり怖かったです。
展望階は、ピクリともしなかった印象があります。近くの山下公園にあるマリンタワーは、ちょっとした風、自分が歩いただけで揺れる勢いでしたから、横浜ランドマークタワーの「頑丈さ」は、驚きです。ショックに近い。揺れる怖さがない状態で、港を足元に見降ろせるのですから。
『未来が来た』とか、わけのわからないことを口走っていた気がします。
エレベーターも高速感いっぱい！
耳がキーンとする暇もないくらいに、うわうわうはっ！と一気に到着します。

The name is Landmark Tower, which feels the same as Tokyo Tower, but rather a building like Kasumigaseki Building or Sunshine 60.

First of all, I was overwhelmed. It was bigger than I had imagined.

What surprised me most was the depth.

High and big towards the sky. It was within imagination, but the so-called "dockyard garden" was beyond imagination. deep. What is this depth? Besides, it seems that you can walk, but wow, it's scary. A building that rises high toward the sky and a space that sneaks deep into the ground.

The dockyard garden is an area like the space between the sea and land, where ships are built and repaired, and when completed, they are launched. It was mysterious 100% to go in there and stand up. When I was standing at the bottom, water seemed to come in from the side, and I was pretty scared.

The observatory floor has the impression that it wasn't even picky. The "ruggedness" of the Yokohama Landmark Tower is surprising because the Marine Tower in the nearby Yamashita Park had a slight breeze and the momentum of shaking just by walking. Close to shock. You can look down on the harbor at your feet without fear of shaking.

I feel like I was talking about something I didn't understand, such as "the future has come."

The elevator is also full of high speed!

みなとみらいの広大な敷地は、見渡す限り潮風に吹かれていて、とても心地良い空間でした。
これからの未来は、空間的に余裕がある設計になるのかなと期待したものです。
海と空と都市の景観。

なんだか祭りのあとみたい

そんなふうに私が心から感動して、勢い余って踊りまくっていた景色は、もうありません。
みなとみらいの開発が進み、建物が増えていく中で、失われゆく景色となったからです。
横浜港の花火を観に行くと、とにかく歩く歩く。しかも広い広い広い。奥へ行けば人も少なくて、人目を気にせずにくつろいだり写真を撮ったり、ころがったりしていました。
これからもずっと、この爽快な空間を楽しめると思っていたのでしょう。自分に都合の良いところで、開発が完了すると思い込んでいたようです。そんなわけ、ないのに。
いま、あの頃の未来にいます。港の未来にいるのです。予想模型が現実になっています。
横浜美術館の展望フロアから見渡す港の景色も素晴らしかったです。もう、観ることのできない風景になってしまいました。

住まいに物があふれていくように

空間が消えてしまいました。いえ、あります。あるけど、それはなんだか窮屈に変化してしまいました。

街も生きているし、変わっていくんだなと、しみじみするばかり。
新築の住まいや、入居前の部屋のように、無限に感じた空間。
それが、ゆっくり、着実に「物」が増えて、断捨離しないの？と言われてしまう環境になっていた。そんな感覚に近いです。
まだまだ広い、みなとみらい。
でもそれは、横浜博覧会で胸を熱くさせた未来像と、どんどん離れていきます。
それでも。
横浜ランドマークタワーの展望フロアからの眺めは、あいかわらず壮大です。

When I go to see the fireworks at Yokohama Port, I just walk. Moreover, it is wide and wide. When I went to the back, there were few people, and I could relax, take pictures, and roll without worrying about the eyes.

I'm sure I've always thought that I could enjoy this exhilarating space. It seems that he thought that the development would be completed at a place that was convenient for him. That's not the case.

I am in the future of those days. We are in the future of the harbor. The prediction model has become a reality.

The view of the harbor from the observation floor of the Yokohama Museum of Art was also wonderful. It has become a landscape that can no longer be seen.

The space has disappeared. No, there is. There is, but it has changed to be cramped.

I just feel that the city is alive and changing.

A space that feels infinite, like a newly built house or a room before moving in.

Isn't it slowly and steadily increasing the number of "things" and not cutting them off? It was an environment that would be said. It's close to that feeling.

It's still wide, Minatomirai.

However, it is getting farther away from the future image that made me excited at the Yokohama Exotic Showcase.

私は興奮気味でした。何年間も、ずっと。

横浜。ランドマークに行こう。

花火。ランドマークに寄ろう。

花畑、駅前に広がっている、自然があふれていて、いいな。

桜木町駅で待ち合わせするのも、ランドマークタワー内郵便局の前で待ち合わせるのも、窓から港を眺められるカフェで時間を過ごすのも。

吹き抜け空間のエレベーターなんて、ただ、ただ、圧倒されて何度も上へ移動したり、下へ降りたり、そんなことをしているだけで楽しくて仕方ありませんでした。

「ここ最高だな」と私が言うと、

「そうかい？」と、友だちの一人はクールな反応。

横浜で生まれ育った友だちは、『おまえが言うから仕方なくここ来たよ』みたいな顔をするときがあったのですが、まあ、気づきながらも気にしない方向で。

「おすすめの店で！」と、おまかせ。

すると、じゃあ馴染みの良い店があるよと案内されるのが、みなとみらいから歩いていって、古き良き商店街の中の、定食屋さん。

チャーハンが絶品です。みなとみらいに高層建築が増えて、舗道に日陰の面積が増えていくと、だんだんと足がとおのいていったのかな。リアルタイムでは自覚できていないです。思い返せば、そうだったかも。という感覚です。

横浜ランドマークタワーは、いまも素晴らしいです。

それにも増して、みなとみらいだけではなく、大岡川や、「川の駅」を起点にした水上交通の魅力が強まってきている気もします。

「最近、あっちに行こうって言わないね？」とランドマークタワーを指さされたとき、

「そうかい？」と私は答えていました。

咲き誇る桜の中に浮かび上がる、横浜ランドマークタワーは、美しいです。

The Yokohama Landmark Tower is still wonderful.

In addition to that, I feel that not only Minatomirai but also the Ooka River and water transportation starting from "River Station" are becoming more attractive.

"Is that so?" I answered.

The Yokohama Landmark Tower, which emerges among the blooming cherry blossoms, is beautiful.
