公園入口からの桜並木では、両脇から枝が触れ合うほど伸びています。

とくに興味をそそられたのが、
「くびき牛のステーキ」
くびき牛とは、この地方の名産ブランド牛のようですね。
新潟県といえば、おいしいお米。お米がおいしいところは、日本酒もおいしい。つまり、水も素晴らしいということです。
そういえば高田城は、水濠がめぐらされていて、水の豊かさを感じます。
新潟県産コシヒカリの「稲わら」を食べて育った牛、それが「くびき牛」です。
上越地方の寒暖差も、おいしい作物に良い影響を与えています。
なにからなにまで、おいしい要素が満ち溢れています。
海辺ではありませんが、日本海に近い立地。そんな環境ですから、魚も見逃せません。
高田城では「旬の地魚すり身汁」も素晴らしい！からだが温まります。

それで「目 キス」というのがネーミングの由来といった感じでしょうか。
日本海、ここ上越地方ではメギスが「煮つけ」「フライ」「天ぷら」などなど、お魚料理の定番なんだとか！
地元で愛されている魚、深海魚です。
直江津では、駅そばでトッピングになっているのも見かけます。
機会があれば、さまざまな料理で味わってみてください。

スキー政宗とは？

「スキー政宗」という名前の地酒があり、注目を集めています。
雪国だからスキーかな、と軽く考えていたのですが、どうやらもっとすごいことのようで、「上越市はスキー発祥の地」だからこその「スキー政宗」だそうです。

ということで少しだけ調べてみました。
日本スキー発祥記念館について上越市立博物館ホームページで紹介されています。

明治44年(1911年)1月12日、
当時のオーストリア・ハンガリー帝国の軍人テオドール・エドラー・フォン・レルヒ少佐が、
ここ上越市において日本で初めてスキーの指導を行いました。
これが日本のスキーの始まりです。
なるほど！「日本のスキー発祥」とは、レルヒ少佐がスキー指導をしたからなんですね！
レルヒ少佐が指導したスキーは「墺国式スキー術」と呼ばれています。

将校婦人たちにもスキーを教えたようです。
しかも技術だけでなく、「スキーの楽しさ」を伝授したことが重要ポイント。
スキーを楽しむことは、閉じこもりがちだった冬という「季節を楽しむ」ことにもなったからです。
時は明治44年。まもなく訪れる大正ロマンの時代に通じる、そんな躍動を感じます。

2019年の 4月 2日に、高田公園の桜の開花が宣言されました。雪が降っていました。
翌日は、3cmの積雪に！
その後、平年気温を上回る日が続き、4月 8日に満開宣言。
その後、今度はうってかわって平年気温を10度近くも下回る日が続き、満開が続いています。
満開の日々、その期間にも記録があります。
満開期間 最短 3日間 最長 6日間
