1719年　享保4年　 徳川吉宗の鷹狩りのときのこと。
 鷹狩りの御膳処に選ばれたのが、香取神社でした。
御膳処は、休憩と食事の場所。
現在の、新小岩厄除で知られる香取神社です。
間々井宮とも呼ばれています。

そのときの神主が、亀井和泉守永範。
 将軍に献上する食事。なかなかに大役です。
亀井和泉守永範が選んだのは、餅の清まし汁（すましじる）でした。
そこに、冬菜を少々。
冬菜は、冬に収穫される菜っ葉もの。地元で収穫されたものです。
冬が旬で、霜の時期に甘みが増して美味しい青菜です。
当時、江戸川区では青菜の栽培が盛んでした。
その頃は、『葛西菜』と呼ばれていたそうです。
ただし、亀井和泉守永範は、あえてその名前を口にしませんでした。

将軍命名

 吉宗公は「冬菜の香味」を、たいそう気に入り、その名前を尋ねました。
とくに名前がない旨を告げると、「小松川の里にちなんで小松菜と名付けよ」と命じられます。 小松川の里の菜、ゆえに「小松菜」と。
将軍が気に入り命名した青菜＝小松菜ということで人気が高まり、近隣でも栽培されるようになります。やがて全国へ。
 あえて「葛西菜」の名前は言わなかった、亀井和泉守。
果たして意図があったのかなかったのか。
というより、そんなことを憶測しないのが、粋ですね。
将軍が気に入った、名を与えた。これだけで、今までとは別格になります。
現代風に言うなら、超インフルエンサーによる命名でバズって流行した、という感じでしょうか。
歴史が証明しているのは、小松菜が全国区の知名度になったこと。
栄養価もばっちりの野菜・青菜です。
鷹狩りの際にはいつもお土産として地元の村から小松菜が献上されたそうです。
ちなみに、吉宗公は「鷹将軍」と呼ばれるほど鷹狩りを愛好し、江戸川区エリアには、76回ほど訪問しています。

By the way, Mr. Yoshimune loves falconry so much that he is called "Falconry Shogun", and he has visited the Edogawa Ward area about 76 times.

これが人気となり全国に広まるというのは、野菜の栽培と収穫も安定していくことにつながったのではないでしょうか。

亀井家は代々「いづみ様」と地元の人たちから呼ばれてきました。
亀井家には「小松菜さま」が屋敷神として祀られています。
「困ったことがあれば、
『こまつたな』と言って
　小松菜を供える」
すると、願い事がかなうそう。

さらに、小松菜を供えることは、
「菜をあげる」＝「名を上げる」
「なをあげて、名を残す」
ということで、
「菜をあげ名を残す」と言って、出世願いや繁栄繁盛に効果があるとして、信仰され続けています。
そんな亀井家の屋敷は「小松菜屋敷」と呼ばれて親しまれてきました。

産土神
Ubusunagami


現在、新小岩厄除香取神社には、「小松菜ゆかり塚」があり、「小松菜産土神」として祀られています。

「産土神」は「うぶすながみ」と読みます。
 土地の守護神です。
その土地で生まれた人を、ずっと守護してくれる神様です。
その土地を離れて別の場所で暮らしていても、ずっと守護し続けてくれるそうですよ。
 ありがたいことです。

 私はご朱印をいただいたことがないのですが、SNSで見かけることができました。
しっかりと「武州（武蔵国）」と「葛西」の文字がありますね。

      小松菜。なにげないエピソードですが、音の響きも良い名前だなと感じてます。
